Blackhorse Lane Denim Atelier

On Thursday we had the pleasure of meeting Hans and Toby from Blackhorse Lane Ateliers. Launching in April 2016, Blackhorse Lane Ateliers are a truly unique denim manufacturer located in Walthamstow, bringing denim manufacturing back to London for the first time in 40 years.

During our visit we were given a tour of the 1920’s refurbished factory, from which their logo originates.  All the finished products we saw were manufactured in house. We observed the super skilled machinists and pattern cutters at work using traditional machinery, focusing on heritage denim details such as darning, double chain stitched hems and riveting. We also had a look at the studios at the back of the factory which house skilled craftsmen in natural dying, weaving, design, a leathersmiths studio, as well as a chef’s kitchen which is used for the pop up restaurant run at the weekends.

We spoke with Hans and Toby about their ethos to connect nature to industry. They are looking to close the manufacture to consumer gap - with initiatives like growing the Indigofera plant in their own allotment, in-house leather workshops as well as by making authentic jeans that will last; to fight back at fast fashion. Very EXCITING and we would encourage everyone to make a trip.

Kings Of Indigo jeans

SS16 sees Kings of Indigo craft a nostalgic, American west inspired collection of Japanese and 1970s enthused work wear.

Heritage, tradition and craftsmanship are dominant themes this season.

SS16 translates of a history of denim spanning from east to west which comes together seamlessly as K.O.I combine American classics with Japanese detailing.

MiH day

We had an amazing day at MiH headquarters last week. We had a chance to flip through what we have arriving over the next few months. The guys were very hospitable and treated guests with some lovely foods and warm drinks. The space was so fresh and airy, which made the whole experience aesthetically rich.

The inspiration for SS16 is artist Niki de Saint Phalle and free spirit of the coast. The references are from the beach and desert, French sunrise to Mexican sunset - its vintage simplicity with surfer girl attitude.

Here are some delicious detail shots to wet your appetite.
